Baltimore Water Taxis

Now that the weather is good the water taxis are out in force, blue and white boats chugging backwards and forwards across the Inner Harbor. From Landing 1: Aquarium to Landing 2: Harborplace, to Landing 3: Science Center to Landing 4: Rusty Scupper to Landing 5: Pier Five to Landing 7: Harbor East to Landing 8: Maritime Park to Landing 9:   HarborView, Landing 10: Tide Point, Landing 11: Fells Point, to the quieter areas, Landing 14: Captain James Landing, Landing 16: Canton Waterfront Park and Landing 17: Fort McHenry. I wonder what happened to Landing 6, Landings 12 and 13, and Landing 15.

You get all 14 destinations for ten bucks a day, and you get a little packet of coupons that are probably worth the daily price if you are willing to exhaust yourself using them.

It’s great to be on the open water taking in the sea breeze. A few passengers drop off at the Rusty Scupper restaurant and we head towards the big Domino sugar sign, and pass a couple of large iron boats that appear to be welded together. On the way a Pirate Boat crosses our wake, its crew whooping and waving swords.

Many of the passengers get off at Fells Point and trot across the cobblestones towards shops, boutiques and a wealth of pubs and restaurants, then we’re off to the somewhat less hectic Captain James Landing and Canton Waterfront Park.

Finally, we reach the limit of the taxi run, Fort McHenry, which once guarded Baltimore against the British invaders. Old cannons poke out from behind green hills, and the more energetic of us examine the fortifications.

Of course, I didn’t do all this in one shot. I believe in energetic sorties one at a time.
